Greg Monroe was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on June 4th, 1990. He grew up playing sports and basketball as a young kid. His basketball skills started to get the attention of coaches and his peers in high school. He attended Helen Cox High School and during his junior year he led the school to a number one state ranking. Also, in 2007, Greg Monroe won the title of Louisiana Mr. Basketball.
After his high school career, Greg decided to take his talents to Georgetown to play for the Hoyas. Even though he had a lot of critics about his play his freshman year, Greg still managed to snag the Big East Rookie of the Year award. College definitely helped him improve his game and his sophomore year he saw a large improvement in his stats such as scoring, assists and rebounds. He is an excellent defender and really knows how to use his length to adjust opponent's shots.
In the 2010 NBA draft, Greg Monroe was selected by the Detroit Pistons as the 7th overall pick. Greg Monroe has been a really fundamentally sound player for the Pistons and has been a good addition to the team. His basketball IQ is higher than most other big men in the NBA. In fact, he has had a few triple doubles throughout his NBA career which is not easy to do and quite impressive.
